Polyethylene (PE) water supply pipes are manufactured from specialized polyethylene raw materials via a single-stage extrusion process using plastic extruders. They are widely utilized in urban water supply networks, irrigation and drinking water projects, landfill sites, sewage collection pipeline systems, and agricultural sprinkler irrigation projects.
Because PE pipelines are joined using thermal fusion (butt fusion) or electrofusion, the joints become fully integrated with the pipe itself. This effectively resists the circumferential (hoop) stress generated by internal pressure, as well as axial impact stress. Furthermore, PE water supply pipes do not contain heavy metal salt stabilizers; the material is non-toxic, scale-resistant, and does not harbor bacteria, thereby preventing secondary contamination of drinking water.
- Urban water supply systems
- Food and chemical industries
- Buried/underground fire protection systems
- Mining slurry and tailings transport
- Trenchless rehabilitation (replacing existing concrete and steel pipes)
- Landscaping and municipal greening
- Power and telecommunications cable conduits
- Agricultural farmland irrigation
- Siphon drainage systems
- Landfill waste management
- Geothermal and HVAC piping systems

In international markets, PE pipes are strictly classified by their Minimum Required Strength (MRS) after 50 years of operation at 20°C:
- PE80 (MRS 8.0 MPa): Older generation material, now primarily used for smaller diameter pipes or lower pressure applications.
- PE100 (MRS 10.0 MPa): The modern industry standard. It offers higher pressure ratings, thinner walls for the same pressure (saving material costs), and superior resistance to Rapid Crack Propagation (RCP) and Slow Crack Growth (SCG).
